Upcoming Ivy League Basketball Season Will Be Broadcast Nationally

This winter, Columbia basketball fans living anywhere in the 50 states can cheer their Lions now that DirecTV has landed the national rights to broadcast Ivy League games.

On nine consecutive Friday evenings beginning in January, "Ivy League Friday Nights" picks a single matchup in the Ivy League to air, though some evenings will have two games when the schools' men's and women's teams play a doubleheader.

The Light Blue makes its first TV appearance on Jan. 15 in a doubleheader at Cornell in Ithaca. The men's team will be seen a second time, on Feb. 26, at the Palestra in Philadelphia against the Penn Quakers.

In The New York Times, Columbia coach Armond Hill spoke for all the Ivy League's basketball players by saying, "I think the kids will enjoy playing on television and being seen all over the country."
