NOTICE:
The following information was provided by the Columbia Political Union:

If you sent in a voter registration form by the October 13 deadline, you are constitutionally entitled to vote in New York. Students with no permanent address in New York have recently faced obstacles in attempting to register to vote in New York. As a result of organized student efforts, however, the New York City Board of Elections unanimously adopted a resolution, dated October 5, to process all pending student registration forms.

To avoid complications, you should take the following steps to ensure you will be able to vote on Election Day:

  1. Because of a backlog in processing forms, some students may not have received registration confirmation by mail. Call the Board of Elections at (212) VOTE-NYC to make sure you are registered.
  2. If you submitted your voter registration form on time, but have not received confirmation of registration by mail, you may still be registered. Go to the polls on Election Day. A student representative will be present at each Columbia University voting site to make sure you are at the correct site.
  3. If you are at the correct polling site and find that your are not registered to vote despite submitting your form on time, make sure to leave your contact information with the student representative.
  4. You may vote by affidavit before leaving the polls if you are not registered. Voting by affidavit enables you to vote on a paper ballot. Measures will be taken to ensure that votes by affidavit are counted.
