The Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning has opened a Health Sciences office in the Fort Washington Armory building at 168th St. to accommodate the expanding use of digital technologies in Columbia's health sciences curriculum.

The new Center provides the faculty of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, School of Dental and Oral Surgery, the Joseph A. Mailman School of Public Heath and the Nursing School with individual consultations, as well as ongoing support in the development of course-specific projects. Instructors and directors are invited to visit the Center during an open house January 25, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn more.

"The faculty can not believe these services are free," said John Zimmerman, associate director for the CCNMTL and director of the uptown office. "This is more than just an online syllabus. We are eager to work with faculty on the teaching and learning issues as well as new applications of instructional technology."

The use of multi-media laden digital technologies has quickly caught on in these health-related fields, where experience is critical to the learning process. Technologists have been working with uptown faculty since last summer, long before there was an official uptown base of operations. To date, 150 uptown faculty have consulted with the CCNMTL.
