Columbia College Women Host Tenth Annual Alumna Achievement Award

Columbia College Women will host the tenth annual Alumna Achievement Award on Thursday, March 22, at 7 p.m. in Alfred Lerner Hall.

Stephanie Falcone Bernik, CC'89, a breast cancer surgeon at Saint Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York City, is this year's recipient. Bernik graduated magna cum laude from Columbia College in 1989 and earned her medical degree from Yale in 1993. The results of Bernik's extensive research on such topics as breast cancer during pregnancy and long-term results of breast cancer treatments have been published in numerous medical journals.

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, representing New York's 14th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, will give the keynote address. Maloney, a Democrat, is co-chair of the Women's Caucus, and a leading advocate for women and families in Congress.

The Alumna Achievement Award is Columbia College Women's highest honor. It is presented each year to an alumna who has demonstrated excellence in her field and has made a significant contribution to Columbia College and its community at large.

Past recipients are: Susan Dreyer '87, Virginia Cornish '91, Stephanie Schwartz '88, Linda Landau '89, Ilaria Rebay '87, Wanda Holland '89, Alison Taylor '86, Amy Brown '88 and Elizabeth Schwartz '87.
