2001 Skytte Prize Given to Barry

Brian Barry, Arnold A. Saltzman Professor of Political Science and Philosophy, has been awarded the Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science for 2001.

The Skytte Prize (pronounced 'skoot') is given to a scholar, who in the view of the Skytte Foundation at Uppsala University, Sweden, has made the most valuable contribution to the discipline of political science.

The $50,000 award recognizes Barry for "his profound contribution to normative political theory performed with passion as well as clarity in the grand tradition of the Enlightenment."

His books "Political Argument" (Humanities Press, 1965), "Justice as Impartiality" (Oxford, 1995) and "Culture and Equality" (Harvard, 2001), were especially noted. The prize will be awarded at a ceremony in Uppsala on September 29th.
