Columbia Interactive and Fathom Gateway Launched With Direct Links to Columbia Digital Knowledge

By Lauren Marshall

The Columbia Homepage has two new buttons, Columbia Interactive and Fathom, which provide the Columbia community and a wider public with direct links to the hundreds of digital educational tools, volumes of online content and a wide array of new online learning developed at Columbia.

Both Columbia Interactive and Fathom are part of Columbia's three-part digital media strategy, which may well place Columbia at the forefront of the higher education digital revolution. For more information goto Columbia Digital, a special supplement to the Columbia Record.

Perhaps no other university has made so much of its digital content available to the public as Columbia University has through Columbia Interactive. The organized, searchable site contains links to much of the University's digital content, online educational tools and new developments in online learning. This material includes e-courses and just-released interactive e-seminars taught by some of the university's leading faculty, including Simon Schama, Kenneth Jackson and Robert O'Meally, in addition to faculty interviews and course websites, which feature links to free Web resources, e-journals and digital learning tools developed at the University.

Accompanying the launch of Columbia Interactive, Fathom, the source for online learning founded by Columbia in partnership with leading educational and cultural institutions, has launched a new Columbia gateway to Fathom content available on the Columbia Homepage. The site features Columbia content in addition to links to online knowledge from other member institutions. Fathom has also announced improvements in search functionality and navigation and better links to scholarly content and resources throughout the Fathom site.

It is through three digital media organizations--Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning (CCNMTL), Columbia Digital Knowledge Ventures (Columbia DKV) and Fathom—that Columbia is supporting the innovation, implementation and use of digital media in teaching and learning and extending the University's digital media advances beyond campus to a broader public.
