For budding politicians and policy makers who are interested in securing a congressional internship, there will be a meeting on Thursday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. in the Satow Room of Alfred Lerner Hall to learn about the intersession and summer internships that the Office of Public Affairs sponsors for undergraduate students.
Internships are available in both local (New York City or a home district) and Washington Congressional Offices.
Last summer students worked for Senators Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA), as well as for Congresswoman Marge Roukema (R-NJ) and Congressman Ben Gilman (R-NY) among others. Students spent the summer living in D.C., working on Capitol Hill, attending events hosted by Columbia University alumni and senior government officials and playing on the Columbia University Intern Softball team.
Associate Vice President Ellen S. Smith will speak at the meeting along with a panel of past intern participants. Light refreshments will be served.
If you have questions or need additional information, please call Liz Notman, Congressional Intern Coordinator at 854-7009 or e-mail her at ean2002@columbia.edu.
