The 2002 Reuters Forum continues on Wednesday, April 10, with a lecture entitled "Immigration Backlash: Labor Migration in Crisis?." This forum will examine the economics of international migration, who benefits and who loses out; the political history of support for and opposition to immigration, especially in the United States and Europe, and the current debate on immigration and asylum, and whether the events of September 11 fundamentally changed the debate.
Steve Schifferes of BBC News Online will moderate the discussion. The panel will include Ziad Asali, president of the Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee; Randall Hamud, lawyer; Doris Meissner, former commissioner of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, and David Schlesinger, Americas Editor for Reuters.
The forum will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Third Floor Lecture Hall in the Journalism Building.
