University Is Closed Monday, February 17, Due to Inclement Weather

Robert Kasdin, senior executive vice president, provides the following information to the Columbia University community:

Due to winter storm conditions, Columbia University is closed today, Monday, February 17. Classes have been cancelled and essential services will operate on a limited schedule. Barnard College also has announced the cancellation of classes.

Essential employees should report to campus for work. In support of the Mayor's request to limit travel in the City, non-essential employees should remain at home and those who already have arrived on campus should leave early. Any employee who is unclear as to whether he or she is considered essential should contact his or her supervisor.

The following is important information about University operations during the storm:

Campus Access and Snow Removal:

Throughout the storm, access to the campus will remain limited. Facilities Management and Residence Halls personnel are working to clear primary pathways. Secondary campus entrances will remain closed until they are cleared.


All classes are cancelled at Columbia and Barnard on Monday, February 17.

Dining Services:

Open for regular hours: John Jay Dining Hall will remain open on its regular schedule, for the board plan and dining dollars only (Brunch: 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Dinner: 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.).
Open until 2:00 p.m.: Ferris Booth Commons, Uris Deli, Wien Food Court
Open until 9:00 p.m.: Cafe 212 in Alfred Lerner Hall

Closed: Carleton dining area, Hartley Deli, JJ's Place and Lenfest

Dodge Physical Fitness Center:

The Dodge Physical Fitness Center is open on its regular schedule.

Health Services:

Health Services Primary Care is open for urgent care and previously scheduled appointments until 6:30p.m. Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) is open for walk-in appointments until 6:30p.m. All confirmed appointments will be held as scheduled.

Alfred Lerner Hall:

All events in Alfred Lerner Hall have been cancelled. The building remains open for general use.


Butler Library is open on its regular 24-hour schedule today. Other library services will be limited and will operate based on the availability of staff.

All schedules are subject to change as conditions warrant. Updates will be posted to the Columbia home page, as they become available.
