Each year, Columbia and Barnard's finest actors and creative talents gather to skewer the more dubious aspects of life at Columbia in an annually re-created and re-imagined piece of musical theater. The Varsity Show has always been and continues to be one of the most respected and popular student-run events at Columbia.
The Varsity Show, founded in 1894, is one of the University's oldest traditions in Columbia 's 250-year history. The long list of alumni of the show includes such distinguished names as Rodgers '23, Hammerstein '16, Lorenz Hart '18, Herman Mankiewicz '17, I.A.L. Diamond '41, and Terrence McNally '60.
This event has four shows:
- Thursday, April 15 at 9 p.m.
- Friday, April 16 at 9 p.m.
- Saturday, April 17 at 8 p.m.
- Sunday, April 18 at 9 p.m.
In addition, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, in Alfred Lerner Hall, Room 555, the Varsity Show will present the first annual "I.A.L. Diamond Award for Achievement in the Arts" to one of our distinguished alumni.
