Gateway Launched at CU Libraries

The Libraries at Columbia University recently launched the Libraries Alumni and Friends Gateway, an interactive Web site featuring electronic resources, a compilation of searchable databases developed specifically for alumni and members of Friends of the Columbia Libraries. The new portal, www.alumni.libraries.columbia.edu, also links users to the Libraries' collections and digital resources as well as information about news and upcoming Friends and Libraries events.

"The Libraries at Columbia have wonderful collections and extensive electronic collections," said James Neal, vice president for Information Services and University Librarian at Columbia. "We developed this Web site to enable alumni and members of Friends to draw upon these resources and stay connected with the strong academic community at the Libraries."

Electronic resources include:

  • ProQuest Research Library, a collection of more than 3,000 full text journals dating from 1971 to the present, covering the arts, business, health, humanities, law and sciences
  • ProQuest Newspapers, a database that provides access to some 50 national and regional newspapers, including the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal
  • ABI/Inform Global, a collection of nearly 1,800 worldwide business periodicals
  • American Medical Association, which provides access to the full text of more than 20 publications of the AMA
