CU Takes Security Precautions in Response to London Bombings

A series of bombings earlier today targeted the transit system in London, England. The University extends its deepest sympathy to the victims of this act of terrorism and to the City of London as they cope with this tragedy. We are in the process of reaching out to members of the Columbia community in the area to offer any necessary assistance.

In response to these events, New York City has increased police presence at major transportation hubs, including Grand Central and Penn Stations, bridges and tunnels, and throughout the city's financial district.

Columbia University Public Safety is taking additional precautions to enhance security, including increased foot and mobile patrols. The University continues to be in direct conversation with the NYPD and local Precinct Commanders.

If you are concerned or see any suspicious activity, please call the NYC tip line at (888) NYC-SAFE. For NYC Police or Fire emergencies dial 911. On campus, please use the following contact numbers for Public Safety:

  • Morningside: on campus- 99 / off campus- 854-5555
  • Medical Center: on campus- 7-7979 / off campus- 305-8100

Any updates or special notices will be posted on the Columbia University home page at www.columbia.edu. As details of these events continue to unfold, updates on national security efforts can be found at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's website at www.dhs.gov.
