Social Justice in Transatlantic Perspective, March 30-31

On March 30 and 31, the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America presents a conference, "Social Justice in Transatlantic Perspective." The conference will examine the history, present trajectory and future agenda of social justice in the light of changing global relationships. Among the questions panelists will explore are: How do we think about social rights now that the era of the welfare state has passed? In what form will they survive the rapid turn to globalization? Will they outlive the new brand of conservatism in the United States and Europe? How do we imagine political, institutional and economic practice changing in response to the demise of the social democratic model?

The event will be held at the Italian Academy, 1161 Amsterdam Avenue. The conference is supported by the History Department, the Office of the Provost, the Herbert H. Lehman Center for American History at Columbia University and the Inter-university Center for European-American History and Politics.
