"The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature," Apr. 27

On Thursday, April 27, Steven Pinker, the Johnstone Family Professor in the department of psychology at Harvard University, will discuss "The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature."

The event begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Proskauer Auditorium, Room 104, Jerome Greene Hall.

Pinker conducts research on language and cognition, writes for publications such as The New York Times, Time , and Slate , and is the author of six books, including The Language Instinct, How the Mind Works, Words and Rules , and The Blank Slate .

In this discussion, Pinker will observe how science, in uncovering the wonders of human nature, is blamed for stripping life of meaning and purpose, dissolving personal responsibility and creating hostility among some parts of the public.

The event is sponsored by the Heyman Center .
