Columbia Community Outreach Volunteer Day, April 8
The Columbia Community Outreach (COO) student organization will host the eighth annual, day-long CCO community service project on Saturday, April 8. Events begin at 10:00 a.m., with an introduction to the event and speakers. By 11:00 a.m. participants go out to their assigned task in the city.
This event offers students, faculty, staff and alumni volunteers the opportunity to work alongside community members and non-profit organizations. Traditionally projects have been within the Morningside and Riverside Parks, including painting benches, trimming and weeding flowerbeds and bushes and general clean-up. Volunteers also have worked at Covenant House, A Better Place and Habitat for Humanity.
Since CCO's inception in 1997, each year more than 1,400 Columbia volunteers have offered their services at over 40 sites citywide to raise over $20,000 for Columbia's on-going service projects. Two of the goals of the projects are to raise awareness of opportunities for long-term service and to form mutually beneficial relationships with the
Harlem and Morningside Heights communities.
