On Wednesday, May 17, more than 11,000 students will graduate in the commencement ceremony marking the University's 252nd academic year. The Morningside campus will serve as host to nearly 30,000 family and friends expected to attend.
Following Columbia tradition, University President Lee C. Bollinger will deliver the commencement address. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m.
The only gate open to press, at 116th and Amsterdam ( campus map ), will open at 9:00 a.m. Television crews should arrive by 9:30 a.m. for set-up; risers and a mult box will be provided. An area near the University president will be reserved for members of the press who RSVP for press tickets (send an email to mg1152@columbia.edu or mal2133@columbia.edu ) . Credentials will be checked at the gate.
Maya Lin, Kenneth Chenault, Irving Weissman Receive Honorary Degrees
Among those receiving honorary degrees are esteemed architect Maya Lin, designer of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.; American Express Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Chenault, also a member of the board of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation; and distinguished cell biologist Irving Weissman, famous for his pioneering work on stem cells.
In addition, Citigroup Chief Financial Officer Sallie Krawcheck, Business '92, will receive the University Medal of Excellence.
