Columbia Film Festival Opens May 1; Features New Awards

The first-ever $10,000 A&E IndieFilms Talent Development Award for Non-Fiction Filmmaking will be among the prizes that School of the Arts (SoA) Film Division graduate students will vie for during the 19th annual Columbia University Film Festival, which runs May 1 - 11.

The festival will include 39 short films and 13 screenplays. Films will screen at the IFC Center, 323 6th Avenue at West 3rd Street.

On May 9, faculty award-winning screenplays will be presented. On May 11, faculty award-winning films will be screened, and more than $120,000 worth of prizes will be announced, including the award from A&E Television Networks.

Columbia University film students, alumni and faculty have won multiple honors this year at the Oscars, Golden Globes, Berlin International Film Festival, Asian American International Film Festival, Independent Spirit Awards and have been featured at Sundance and the current Tribeca Film Festival.
