Nicholas Wade, veteran science writer at the New York Times, will sign copies and discuss his new book, “Before the Dawn: Recovering the Lost History of Our Ancestors.” Co-sponsored by the department of Genetics & Development and the Center for Human Genetics, Wade will speak about the controversial new book, which argues that human evolution is still occurring today and will continue in the future. The book also shows how racial differences can be marked genetically and why this is important, including for the treatment of diseases. Wade examines how scientists are using DNA analysis to understand our prehistory, and he tracks the evolutionary pressures on humans and their impact on the development language, social behaviors and cultural practices.
