"Just What Is the Press Entitled to Know?" is the topic of a First Amendment panel discussion at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. It is open to the public.

Jane Eisner, vice president for civic initiatives at the center and a graduate of the school, will lead a cross-section of voices, including Newsweek columnist Jonathan Alter who recently wrote about the importance of adopting a Shield Law. Other panelists include Eve Burton, general counsel for Hearst; Chris Morvillo, an First Amendment attorney and former U.S. assistant attorney general for New York under the Bush administration; and Tom Healy, a former Baltimore Sun Supreme Court reporter who teaches media law at Seton Hall.

The program is an outgrowth of the collaboration between the school’s First Amendment program and the center’s Civic Initiatives Program.

Eisner joined the Constitution Center from The Philadelphia Inquirer, where she served for 25 years in various leadership positions. The initiatives program was designed to create programs to further grow the Center’s presence as a leader in national civic education and engagement. Eisner is a former columnist and editorial board chair of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Arlene Morgan, associate dean who oversees the First Amendment program, said the program is open to anyone who is interested in free press issues.
