Trustees Welcome Two New Members

Kenneth A. Forde and Kyriakos TsakopoulosKenneth A. Forde and Kyriakos Tsakopoulos

Gathering at Columbia on Oct. 4-6 for the first of their quarterly meetings of the 2006-2007 academic year, the trustees welcomed two new members: Kenneth A. Forde, professor emeritus of clinical surgery at Columbia's College of Physicians and Surgeons (P&S); and Kyriakos Tsakopoulos, a land developer from California. Forde and Tsakopoulos take the place of retiring trustees John Chalsty and George Van Amson, both of whom have been elected as trustees emeritus.

Forde graduated from the City College of New York and received his MD from P&S. Following training at Columbia, he remained on the faculty from 1966 to 2006, attaining the rank of professor of clinical surgery and occupying the José M. Ferrer chair in surgery from 1997 to 2006.

Tsakopoulos graduated from Columbia College in 1993. In June 2004, he presented a generous gift to Columbia to establish the Kyriakos Tsakopoulos chair in Hellenic studies in the Department of Classics, as well as an annual lecture series entitled "Aristotle and the Moderns." The 36-year-old becomes the board's youngest member.
