Hudson Moving & Storage and Columbia University
Reach Agreement

Hudson Moving & Storage, owned by Anne Whitman, has reached an agreement with Columbia University that will serve the interests of the company, its employees and the University.

Columbia will assume ownership of the current Hudson Moving & Storage property at 3229 Broadway in exchange for a property on Audubon Avenue in Washington Heights adjacent to Columbia University Medical Center.

As part of this agreement, Columbia will build a new structure on the replacement site that will be owned by Anne Whitman. As part of the construction, it will relocate the attractive old façade of the existing Hudson building to the replacement property and commemorate the building with plaques honoring the history of the building and Ms. Whitman’s parents, Sheila Anne and Joseph Albert Zuhusky.

At the same time, the University has identified temporary space on the east side of Broadway between 131st and 132nd Streets for Hudson Moving & Storage to occupy while the new building is being constructed.

This agreement provides a true “win-win” solution for Hudson Moving & Storage and its employees. The University salutes Anne Whitman for her stewardship of her business, her property and her community, and we look forward to working with her to realize the mutual benefits of this agreement.

Anyone who wants to learn more about Columbia's proposal should visit the Manhattanville planning Web site. This site is in both English and Spanish and is updated regularly.
