Ted Forstmann, chairman and CEO of Children's Scholarship Fund, will speak on "Revolutionizing Education: How Competition Can Save Kids and Reward Teachers" on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999 at 5 p.m. at the Law School. The event is co-sponsored by Columbia Law School and Teachers College.
Mr. Forstmann, known for his long history of giving to help underprivileged children around the world, has been heralded for his efforts to expand educational opportunity and competition through Children's Scholarship Fund (CSF). In June 1998, Mr. Forstmann and John Walton of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. pledged $100 million of their own money to launch CSF, a program established to help children of low-income families gain access to the schools of their choice. On April 21, 1999, CSF awarded $170 million in scholarships to 40,000 children across America. Parents of more than 1.2 million low-income children across the country applied for the scholarships.
Mr. Forstmann, a graduate of Yale University and Columbia Law School, is also known for his enormous success on Wall Street through the private investment firm Forstmann Little & Co., of which he is senior partner.
Mr. Forstmann will discuss his vision of a better future for teachers in America on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999 at 5 p.m. at Jerome Greene Hall, Room 104.
