Divorce Associated with Emergence of Political Gender Gap, Say Economics Professors Edlund and Pande
Research by Columbia economics professors Lena Edlund and Rohini Pande suggests that increased divorce among middle-class Americans is associated with the growth of the political gender gap. After divorce, research shows men's per capita income often returns to levels above the mean, while women's per capita income is more likely to drop below the mean, lending to "soccer moms" support of Clinton in the 1990s.
