Technology Transfer is a 'Virtuous Cycle' Benefiting Society, Universities, Government, Says S&TV's Michael Cleare

Michael Cleare, executive director of Science & Technology Ventures, discusses the importance of technology transfer for universities and the commercialization process. The activity is a "virtuous cycle," he says, with benefits that extend to society as a whole; generates tax dollars for the government, and technology transfer revenue returned for a wide variety of improvements at the university. Among other research and education related activities at Columbia, these proceeds have been used to create new interdisciplinary centers, such as the Genomic Center and Biomedical Engineering.
