Nicolas Sarkozy

French Finance Minister Sarkozy Stresses Importance of Diversity

Diversity in French society and government was the major focus of a presentation by Nicolas Sarkozy, France's minister for economy, finance and industry and former minister of the interior. "A fair society is one in which each member can live at his own rhythm, and the error of the 35-hour workweek is that it is mandatory," Minister Sarkozy said. In addition, he discussed French health care problems, Europe's relationship with North Africa and the war in Iraq. The event was sponsored by The Alliance program, a partnership among Columbia University, Sciences Po, the Ecole Polytechnique and the Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne University, to encourage U.S.-French academic and scientific cooperation.
