The Double Discovery Center
at Columbia University brings low-income and
first-generation college-bound New York City youth to Columbia's campus to
learn about colleges and careers, improve their academic work, and
participate in personal development activities. The Center began with 200
students in 1965 as a pilot project for the national Upward Bound Program
and now serves more than 1,000 young New Yorkers each year. (2:18)
