Who We Are and What We Do The Public Affairs Office promotes greater public understanding and visibility of the University's varied and deep strengths -- its award-winning faculty and interdisciplinary programs, its extensive global partnerships and local community ties, its path-breaking scientific discoveries and scholarship, its artistic and cultural collaborations, and its diverse and outstanding students. Working in close partnership with faculty, deans, department chairs, senior administrators and the President, the Office conveys news and information about Columbia to a variety of internal and external constituents, particularly leading domestic and international media. To accomplish our mission, the Office of Public Affairs: - Offers strategic communications advice and direction on issues of importance to the University;
- Develops communications components for University-wide events and initiatives;
- Coordinates news and information across departments and schools and conveys it to the public;
- Manages the University's Home and News Pages;
- Develops and maintains media relations with major media outlets and specialized press;
- Provides faculty with media training on request;
- Connects press to faculty experts for commentary and analysis;
- Publishes The Record, the University's official newspaper, and other informational materials;
- Provides video and photographic services;
- Manages media relations at major conferences and events, both domestic and international;
- Welcomes newcomers to the campus through its Visitor's Center; and
- Offers a variety of services through its Publications Office.
