Columbia Kicks Off Yearlong Celebration of 250th Anniversary
With an extraordinary weekend of joyous alumni reunions, gridiron grit, cutting-edge academic symposia, soaring confetti and what was possibly the world's largest red velvet cake, the Columbia community celebrated the kickoff of an anniversary 250 years in the making, October 16-19, 2003.

Columbia Welcomes Global Leaders from 13 Countries to Morningside Heights
Further strengthening ties with the global community, Columbia hosted more than a dozen foreign dignitaries during a weeklong world affairs lecture series around campus. World leaders from Nicaragua, Serbia-Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, Romania, Slovenia, India, Ukraine, Ghana, Afghanistan, Russian Federation and Iran visited campus.

The School at Columbia University Opens its Doors
The School at Columbia University recently opened its doors at Broadway and 110th Street to approximately 200 students. During the first day of school students met their teachers and new classmates, President Bollinger participated in the building dedication and parents toured the new facility.

As Columbia prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, the Class of 2007 was welcomed with a week of orientation activities and a special convocation service on the South Lawn, inaugurating the academic year.

Columbia Celebrates Midnight's Children with Monthlong Humanities Festival
Throughout the month of March campus bustled with more than 20 discussions, dialogues and open table rehearsals, as part of the Midnight's Children Humanities Festival. The Festival weaved the arts with intellectual programs designed around the U.S. premiere of Salman Rushdie's "Midnight's Children" at the Apollo Theater.
