Columbia 250 Closing Festivities and Homecoming 2004
Columbia.s 250th anniversary celebration concluded with a big finish Sept. 30 . Oct. 2. Among the festivities were a pep rally, the New Frontiers in Creativity symposium, the poetry reading Howl, and Homecoming 2004.

Columbia's World Leaders Forum: A Look Back in Pictures
From Sept. 20 to Sept. 29, Columbia welcomed more than a dozen global leaders, including presidents from Bolivia, Romania, Latvia and Mozambique and six foreign ministers, to the second-annual World Leaders Forum. Topics of discussion included globalization, reconstruction, the post-Communist world, institutionalizing democracy and eliminating violence against women.

Class of '08 Moves In, Welcomed by Columbia University
On a day filled with the sound of rumbling moving bins and a threatening sky, the class of 2008 moved in and was welcomed by President Lee C. Bollinger to their first day as the newest members of the Columbia community.

Columbia Graduates More Than 10,900 Students at 2004 Commencement
Thousands gathered at Low Library Plaza on May 19 for Columbia University Commencement Exercises for more than 10,900 students, one of the largest classes in its history. The event coincides with the University.s 250th anniversary year.

Lions Basketball Finish Season with Double-Overtime Victory over Yale
On Saturday, March 6, more than 2,700 fans in Levien Gym cheered the Lions to an 88-79 double-overtime victory over Yale in the final basketball game of the season. With the win Columbia finished the season 10-17, 6-8 in the Ivy, and completes the home sweep of Brown and Yale for the first time since the 1998-99 season.

Columbia Commemorates 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education Decision
Columbia and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education -- the landmark case in which the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that state-imposed racial segregation in public schools violates the Fourteenth Amendment, which guarantees equal protection of the laws --- with a series of special events. Mrs. Thurgood Marshall and the lawyers who played an integral role in the case participated in the inaugural event on Feb. 2 and former President Bill Clinton delivered an address on campus on Feb. 10.
