Columbia Commemorates 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education Decision
By Eileen Barroso
Columbia and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education -- the landmark case in which the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that state-imposed racial segregation in public schools violates the Fourteenth Amendment, which guarantees equal protection of the laws --- with a series of special events. Mrs. Thurgood Marshall and the lawyers who played an integral role in the case participated in the inaugural event on Feb. 2 and former President Bill Clinton delivered an address on campus on Feb. 10.
