This constituted an increase of $62.3 million, or 30.4 percent over the record set the previous year. It was also a record-setting year in terms of gifts from alumni, who together contributed $67.2 million to the Campaign.

As of June 30, 1998, the Campaign for Columbia had raised more than $1.96 billion on the way to its $2.2 billion goal, with two-and-a-half years left to go.

In helping to provide the resources needed to extend Columbia's crucial mission, the Campaign has generated momentum and energy that will continue to drive our efforts far into the future. For this sense of forward movement, the University is deeply indebted to all who are working for and contributing to this historic fundraising effort.
