At SIPA, George Mitchell Calls for Maintaining International Coalition to Battle Terrorism
One illusion buried in the rubble of the World Trade Center is the notion that the United States can go it alone, withdrawing from multi-lateral efforts, refusing to pay our dues at the UN, or repudiating treaties, according to former Senator George Mitchell.

Lisa Anderson, dean of the School of International and Public Affairs, introduced Senator Mitchell, member of the Senate for 14 years, whose distinguished work spanned foreign affairs issues, such as the peace negotiations with Northern Ireland, and domestic policy.

Senator Mitchell said it is now obvious that United States cannot act alone, that we are part of, and interdependent with, others in the world. He noted that it is very much in our interest to encourage the involvement of others in the current conflict and other problems.
