Former Japanese Vice Minister for Finance Eisuke Sakakibara Is Skeptical of New Economic Plans for His Country

Eisuke Sakakibara, Keio University professor and former vice minister of finance for international affairs in Japan, advises skepticism toward the economic plans of Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi and his new Minister of Finance. The adoption of partially-appropriate policies at the wrong time would aggravate the crisis rather than resolving the problems currently facing Japan, he says in a lecture cosponsored by the East Asian Institute and the Center on Japanese Economy and Business.
