Perception, Memory and Art
This symposium examined how humans process and integrate sensory information at a level higher than taste, smell, hearing and vision, to evoke deep emotions and recall distant memories when viewing a painting or listening to a piece of music. Panelists discussed lingering scholarly questions such as to what extent are the different arts properly acts of memory, engaging and ordering immediate and remote perceptions? Elaine Sisman, professor of music, moderated the discussion.
