Military Pay Will Eventually Compete with Other Defense Needs
Military pay will eventually compete with other national defense needs, says Michael O'Hanlon, an adjunct professor at SIPA and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. Noting that most military personnel are paid as well or better than their civilian counterparts, he proposes that pay increases above the rate of inflation should be limited to military personnel in specialty areas, such as piloting and computer technology, where the armed services have difficulty retaining servicemen and servicewomen.
