Drug and HIV Epidemic Is Devastating Young Adults in Former Soviet Union, Says P&S' Jay Dobkin
Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union have the largest percentage increase in estimated people living with HIV/AIDS for the third consecutive year, says Jay Dobkin, A.P. Gold Foundation Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. The effects are devastating young adults. While the former Soviet Union had a relatively low infection rate until the late 1990s, as the walls came down, mobility and drug trade increased, along with incidence of HIV, he says.
