U.S. Has Many Friends in Europe, but Must Work to Bring People Together, Says Ambassador Richard Holbrooke

"In Europe, as in the UN, as in Africa and the fight against HIV/AIDS, the largest problem facing the world today, the United States has to take leadership," says Ambassador Richard Holbrooke. "Leadership means bringing people in. Countries don't have to be 'with us or against us.' On a broad range of issues countries should be allowed to find their own national interest," he says in the Donald and Vera Blinken lecture sponsored by the Institute for the Study of Europe.
