Buzz Beats out Substance in News Programming, Says CNN's Judy Woodruff
Judy Woodruff, host of CNN's Inside Politics, says that in cable news, "we have to keep an audience or we won't survive, but now we have reached a point where we can't seem to stop ourselves," as buzz beats out substance in programming. However, the recent rise of FoxNews and conservative broadcasting will not alter CNN's commitment to unbiased and informative reporting, she says. Woodruff also discusses the budding presidential race and the media's role in the continuing conflict in Iraq. Floyd Abrahms, the William J. Brennan Jr. Visiting Professor of First Amendment Issues, interviewed Woodruff at a First Amendment Breakfast sponsored by the Graduate School of Journalism.
