Associate General Counsel
Anne Louise Oates has served as Associate General Counsel since 1985, handling matters in the areas of sponsored research and compliance, intellectual property, real estate, and litigation. Prior to coming to Columbia, she was an Associate in the Litigation Department at the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, where she worked from 1977 to 1985.
Ms. Oates received her undergraduate education at Smith College, where she graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Economics in 1974. She received her J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1977. She is admitted to practice law in New York State.
