Policies and procedures
Columbia University
People who come to the Ombuds Office often ask about Columbia University policies and procedures. Since University governance is very complex, we recommend that individuals talk directly with an ombuds officer to identify which guidelines and practices are appropriate to particular situations. For example, each school in the University has its own policies on some matters, such as the policy and procedure for deans' discipline. In addition, each department and center or institute may have its own bylaws.
Though not every University-wide policy is listed below, those most frequently relevant to matters brought to the Ombuds Office include the following:
- Library of Policies
- Faculty Handbook
- Guidelines for Research
- Human Resources Policies
- Environmental Health and Safety
- Student Health Services (Morningside campus), including Counseling and Psychological Services, University-wide Office of Disability Services, and Sexual Violence Prevention and Response
- Student Health Services (CUMC campus)
- Student Grievances
- Financial Guidelines
- Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Discrimination and Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedure
- The Mediation Clinic at Columbia Law School
