Non-Performing Opportunities Through Orchesis
Professional
Master Classes:
Twice a semester we offer very affordable master classes on
either a Saturday or Sunday given by a professional
teacher. We bring a variety of teachers with a variety of
styles to the Orchesis community such as jazz, modern, African
and theater dance. Past teachers have included Skip Costa,
Nancy Koch and Wes Veldink. Look for our flyers around
campus to see who this semester's teachers will be!
Member
(Student) Master Classes:
Virtually every weekend we offer a student taught master
class at no cost to you! Past classes have been a great way
to meet other Orchesis members in a relaxed and fun dance
environment and include a number of different types of dance from
Graham technique to Hip-Hop. Check your phone messages and
email for specific times, dates, teachers, and locations! Make
sure you are on our email and phone list so that you will get all
this information!
Dance
Marathon Participation:
As the only all student-run dance group on campus, we support The
Dance Marathon, hosted here at Columbia in February to benefit
the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Last year
we sponsored a dancer and did a killer Thriller
demonstration. There will also opportunities to be a moraler and
cheer the dancers on for a few hours at a time.
Backstage
Show Participation:
We always are looking for stage managers and ushers for our shows
and want you to help us out! If you are interested in being a
stage manager, costume assistant, sound board operator, greenroom
attendant, or usher please let us know!! This is a fun way
to see first hand how we put together our shows from the inside
out! And you get the see the show for free!
Board
Participation:
As one of the largest student groups on campus, we have assembled
a dedicated board that meets once a week to maintain and further
the opportunities of Orchesis. Show your support by running
for a board position, volunteering to be on the Costume or PR
committee, or by simply attending one of our meetings to tell us
how you feel about Orchesis. Every meeting is open to our
entire Orchesis community and we encourage your feedback so we
can keep improving!
