Alberto Nicolis
Assistant Professor
Columbia University

Physics Department

Education:

Ph.D. 2003 Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa

RESEARCH:

My research activity focuses on theoretical high energy physics and cosmology.
For cosmology, in recent years I have approached several topics including large-distance modifications of General Relativity, bouncing/exotic cosmological scenarios and more formally the null energy condition in General Relativity, the development of an effective field theory for cosmological perturbations, and most recently eternal inflation and related puzzles of deSitter space.
In the area of quantum field theory, I have investigated the possibility of constraining the structure of low-energy effective theories of particle physics (with or without gravity) by postulating clear-cut properties of the ``true'' microscopic physics, like for instance causality and Lorentz invariance.
