Biography

EDUCATION:

Ph.D. 1990, University of Toronto

RESEARCH:

My research interests involve experimental tests of the Standard Model of elementary particle physics. My current efforts are directed towards two projects: the D0 experiment at the Fermilab collider, and the ATLAS experiment, which is being designed for operation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to be constructed at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

The LHC will provide pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV. The physics goals include the search for the elusive Higgs boson, very high statistics top and bottom quark studies, and searches for evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model, such as Supersymmetry, technicolor, or any other signature, as yet imagined or not. The design of the ATLAS detector is an extremely challenging task. At Columbia, we are working on the design of an electronic readout for the calorimeter that would cope with the extremely high collision rates while delivering the high precision required to realize the full physics potential of the LHC.
