Tentative Schedule

Get settled in your accommodation at the Hotel Newton, 2528 Broadway at 96th Street,

(212) 678-5000. Guests may begin checking in at 1:00 pm.

 

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Arrival

Open House attendees arrive at Columbia and pick up information packets at the Physics Department, 704 Pupin.

4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Informal Reception

With faculty members and graduate students in 705 Pupin.

5:45 PM

Meet for Dinner

All Open House attendees are invited to attend a group dinner with current grad students - a chance to talk candidly about graduate student life at Columbia and in the Physics Department.

Meet in the lobby of Pupin (remember: this is the 5th Floor) at 5:45 PM. Also recall that on Sunday you can only get to Pupin by entering at the main campus entrance on 116th Street (and Broadway or Amsterdam Ave). Current Graduate students, Arthur Franke and Kurt Hinterbichler, will guide the group to Victor's Cafe located at 236 W. 52nd Street.

We will schedule appointments for you with faculty as per your indicated interests.  The schedule will be circulated on Monday morning.

Campus Tour (Optional)

Regularly scheduled campus tour leaves daily at 1:00 PM from Columbia University Visitors Center, 213 Low Library Building. 

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Tours of Pupin Labs (Optional)

Visits to the AMO lab, condensed matter research lab, experimental astrophysics labs and the lattice gauge supercomputer lab.

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Visit Grad Student Housing (Optional)

Current grad students will hold open house Monday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:00. Feel free to pay a visit on your own during these hours. Specific details to follow.

4:10 PM - 5:15 PM

Physics Department Colloquium 4:10 PM in 428 Pupin

6:00 PM

Faculty/Student Dinners

Small group (1 faculty + 1 current student + 3 or 4 attendees) dinners in local restaurants. This is an opportunity to chat with faculty and students in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Meet in Pupin lobby (remember that is the 5th Floor!) at 6:00 PM to meet in dinner groups. Students going with each faculty member are assigned. See your packet for this information.
