The Instrument Machine Shop

Now Open on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Physics
Instrument Machine Shop provides machining, fabrication and prototype work
in support of the research and teaching programs of the Physics Department and
other Columbia Departments and Laboratories. The shop has completed projects
for other colleges, universities and research related organizations.
Services provided by the Instrument machine Shop include: Computer
Controller Milling, CAD Drafting (AUTOCAD), Milling, Turning, Grinding,
Polishing, Irriditing, Drilling, Sweat Fitting, and Sheet Metal
Fabrication.
The ability to work precise tolerances (0.001"), large
capacities (24" lathe swing and 36" milling travel), extensive metal stock and
a variety of machines allow a wide range of projects to be successfully
undertaken. The shop prides itself on quality work, careful customer support
and prompt response.
Shop services are provided on a "Work Order" basis. The Work
Order Form is obtained from the office of the Shop Supervisor or from
the website below. Job/Project quotes are available upon
request from the Shop Supervisor. Work from others in the Columbia community is actively encouraged. Please

The Physics
Instrument Machine Shop also offers a student shop course. This course is
an introduction to the basics of machining on mills, lathes, drill presses,
