Project Abstract:
The mission of the Neighborhood Economic Development Advocacy Project (NEDAP) is to promote community economic justice, and to eliminate discriminatory economic practices that harm communities and perpetuate inequality and poverty. NEDAP provides an array of legal, technical, and training resources to help community groups confront lending discrimination and press for increased access to financial services for critically-needed economic development.
In 2005, NEDAP launched the NYC Consumer Law Project to provide desperately needed legal information and assistance to peopleÑparticularly women, immigrants, and seniorsÑcaught in the web of consumer finance troubles as a result of abusive and discriminatory practices that pervade low-income communities. NEDAPÕs community legal clinic is based in the Harlem branch of a community development credit union, and complements NEDAPÕs consumer law hotline.
