Politics and Vision
Sheldon Wolin's Politics and Vision incorporates the original text of the first edition, using that as a framework to develop a highly original account of the fate of contemporary democracy. Wolin decries the manner in which democracy is becoming fugitive in the face of new, emergent forms of political power. An historically grounded exegesis on democracy in the modern era, and a penetrating vision of contemporary global politics, Wolin's text exalts a basic starting point for democratic theory: the people. As he writes, "If anything, however, democracy is about the public life of citizens, about ordinary human beings venturing 'out' to take part in deliberations over shared concerns, to contest exclusions from the material and ideal advantages of a free society, and to invent new forms and practices." Wolin's Politics and Vision: Second Edition promises to be a defining text for political theorists interested in democratic life for the next generation.
