The purpose of this page is to provide current and prospective Political Science majors/concentrators with additional information on the various resources and services offered by the Department of Political Science. Information on this web site should be read in conjunction with the Columbia College & School of General Studies Bulletins and the Directory of Classes (a.k.a. "Pencil Book").
On this site, you will find the Undergraduate Course Listing, which has a complete listing of courses offered in the department that are open to undergraduates. You can also access a list of professors' office hours, the degree requirements, and links to other Political Science related information on the World Wide Web.
Here, on the website, and in the bulletin, you will find information on the program in the Department of Political Science and on the department's system of academic advising. In addition, theses sources alert you to opportunities allowing you to use knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom. They include listings of jobs and internships and information on conferences and workshops on the undergraduate bulletin board located just outside the undergraduate political science office, 7th floor IAB (also on the Political Science list server- see below). Please note in particular the descriptions of the "program planning form," prizes for outstanding political science essays, the Edwin Robbins Fellowships, Independent Study, and our Departmental Honors Program. All of this, we hope, will ease your way through the requirements set by the department and in locating extracurricular opportunities and sources of support.
Political Science E-Mail List
As a declared Political Science major or concentrator, you are automatically added to a server list, allowing the department to communicate with you more swiftly and effectively. Over e-mail, you will receive announcements concerning internships, reminders of deadlines for prizes, news of special lectures, receptions, and more. You, in turn, are encouraged to use e-mail to contact your faculty, convey your criticisms and suggestions to the administration of the department, and stay in touch with an adviser.
