Postcrypt Coffeehouse
January, 1993
Friday, January 15------------------------------------
HILARY KAYE - This talented songwriter and guitar player makes her
return to the Postcrypt stage for an opening set. Don't miss her
strong and touching songs.
DAVID ROCHE - This performer offers solid, straight-ahead, original
songs. He recently completed a tour with the Roches, and just came
out with a new album.
PAT HUMPHRIES - Pat is a singer-songwriter, teacher, student, lesbian,
and puppeteer for social change. Catch her on our Fast Folk: Live at
the Postcrypt CD and on her own album, Same Rain.
Saturday, January 17----------------------------------
COSY SHERIDAN - New to the Postcrypt stage, she's been hailed by the
Boston Globe as "one of the brightest stars rising on the folk
horizon." She's an accomplished guitarist with a "warm expressive
voice that talks right to you"---she's bound to send you home smiling.
FRANK CHRISTIAN - This amazing guitar player recently finished
recording on Nancy Griffith's latest release. He also participated in
the Bob Dylan Tribute held last year at Madison Square Garden. He's
agreed to play for two sets, so don't miss it!
Friday, January 22------------------------------------
DEAN STEVENS - Dean's songwriting reflects his bilingual roots
(English and Spanish) and his concern for the environment. We're glad
to have him down from Boston for an opening set.
CATIE CURTIS - This Boston singer-songwriter is an accomplished
guitarist who got her start at age 15 playing at cafes in southern
Maine. Lyrically rooted in folk, her music is derived from popular
rock and blues. Catie has performed with Ferron, John Gorka, Holly
Near, and Greg Brown.
JAMIE WATSON - This guitarist and clawhammer banjo player is also an
excellent songwriter. Jamie plays original and traditional mountain
folk music spiced with a twisted yet loveable sense of humor. We
welcome him for his debut at Postcrypt.
Saturday, January 23----------------------------------
JEFF WILKINSON - He's recently finished a European tour with his band
The Navigators, so catch him here for a solo act. Jeff writes and
sings songs with unusual depth and style.
BUDDY MONDLOCK - This talented writer's songs have been recorded by
David Wilcox. He's working on a new album with Capitol Records.
Friday, January 29------------------------------------
OPEN STAGE - Folk, blues, bluegrass, jazz, reggae---you name it! We
also welcome poets, storytellers, actors, comics, and performers of
all kinds. Performances start at 9:00, sign-up is at 8:45. Eight to
ten minute limit.
Saturday, January 30----------------------------------
EDDY LAWRENCE - Come hear some of the best flat-picking ever found in
these parts. Eddy will make you long for your Alabama roots, even if
you don't have any! He's also featured on our Fast Folk: Live at the
Postcrypt CD.
PAUL McMAHON - Spontaneous, crazy, quirky, witty---not to mention
musical! Paul's a music therapist who hosts improvisational call-in
shows on radio and TV. His work is currently showing in SoHo.
5 CHINESE BROTHERS - Let's just call this evening "Tom Meltzer Night"
in fulfillment of this Brother's request to play on the same night as
Eddy and Paul. This popular New York band features several Columbia
alums. If you ever had doubts about the real-life applications of the
Core Curriculum, this band's original songs are perfect examples...
