Geraldine Ferraro Will Host Community Impact Auction March 22

Geraldine Ferraro

Former US Congresswoman and Vice Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro will host Community Impact's Ninth Annual Spring Gala Auction on Wednesday, March 22 in Low Rotunda.

The annual auction is a fundraiser for Community Impact, the University's student volunteer organization that provides services and programs to more than 14,000 lower income and homeless children, adults and families in Harlem, Washington Heights and Morningside Heights. More than 850 Columbia students participate in Community Impact as tutors, teachers and mentors.

With the auction fast approaching, the evening's host, the Honorable Geraldine Ferraro, has shared her views on the mission of the program.

"The more you have, the more you need to give back, and that's what volunteerism is: giving back," Ferraro said. "Without people attending the auction and giving money to support the program, the scope and breadth of Community Impact would not be as great as it is."

The auction will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. in Low Rotunda on Wed., March 22.

The annual auction features an array of donated items, from vacation getaways and sporting event tickets to jewelry and works of fine art. The auction features items available by paddle bid and through a silent auction.

"This is our one and only fundraising event of the year, and it is a lot of fun in addition to being critical to our livelihood," said Sonia Reese, executive director of Community Impact. "With Geraldine Ferraro joining us this year, it will be an even more exciting evening for everyone."

The $35 admission ticket includes hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and an auction paddle, and can be obtained by calling 854-2617.
